Scope and Contents of the Materials

Circa 1990s-2000s newsletters of Ghent and other neighborhoods/civic leagues in Norfolk, Virginia. The collection also includes booklets, clippings, and other papers from 1968 to 2009 collected by members of the Ghent Neighborhood League regarding businesses, homes, schools, and other subjects relating primarily to Ghent. Minutes include volumes 14-16 (1974-1976), 41-43 (2001-2003), 45 (2005), and an index for volumes covering the years 1962-2005.

Biographical Note

Ghent Neighborhood League is a city-recognized civic association in Norfolk, Virginia. It formed in 1962 "to coordinate citizen interest and activity in preserving the neighborhood." As of March 1963, the League had more than 500 members. The Ghent Neighborhood League is comprised of Ghent homeowners and encompasses the area bound by the Hague, Colonial Avenue, 21st Street, and Hampton Boulevard.
