Biographical Note for Hamilton, John (-1816) : Colonel John Hamilton lived in Nansemond County, Virginia as a mercantile businessman prior to the American Revolution. During the Revolutionary War, Hamilton served with the British army. In 1789 or 1790, Hamilton became British Consul in Norfolk, Virginia. He died in London on December 12, 1816.
