Biographical Note for J. B. H. (James Barron Hope), 1829-1887 : James Barron Hope was born on March 23, 1829 in Virginia. He graduated from the College of William and Mary and practiced law. He married Anne Beverley Whiting in 1857, and together they had two daughters: Jane and Ann. Hope was well-known for his poetry; he served as the official poet at the 250th anniversary celebration of the English settlement at Jamestown. Hope was also editor for The Norfolk Landmark. He died on September 15, 1887 in Norfolk, Virginia and was buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
