Biographical Note for Wertenbaker, Thomas J. : Thomas Jefferson Wertenbaker was born on February 6, 1879 in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was a notable American historian, publishing multiple notable works throughout his life. Wertenbaker attended the University of Virginia, eventually earning his Ph.D. in 1910. He married Sarah Rossetter Marshall on July 10, 1916. From 1910 to 1947, Wertenbaker served as a member of the history department at Princeton University. He died on April 22, 1966 in Princeton, New Jersey and was buried at University of Virginia Cemetery in Charlottesville, Virginia.
