Brief Description: One circa 1941-1945 scrapbook of personal mementos relating to Betty Ward and her husband, Fred Ward. The scrapbook includes photographs, telegrams, playbills, birthday cards, poems, and other materials relating to the couple's relationship during Fred's service in the United States Navy in World War II. Prominent geographic locations in the scrapbook include New York; Jersey City, New Jersey; and San Diego, California. The scrapbook also includes several late 1990s to early 2000s photographs of Fred Ward in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Biographical Note for Ward, Gertrude E. (1919-1996) : Gertrude "Betty" Elizabeth Parsons Harkness Ward was born on August 12, 1919 in San Dimas, California. She married Frederick George Ward on May 6, 1941 in Yuma, Arizona. Ward taught for the Norfolk and Virginia Beach school systems for more than 30 years; she taught at Princess Anne High School for a total of 19 years. She died on June 7, 1996 in Virginia Beach, Virginia and was buried at Princess Anne Memorial Park in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
