Biographical Note for Hitchings, Amelia E. (1924-1999) : Amelia Sue Etheridge Hitchings was born on October 14, 1924. She attended Westhampton College and the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary. During her earlier years, Hitchings served as secretary for her grandfather's produce brokerage firm Elias Etheridge & Son. She married Vernon Davis Hitchings, Jr. on March 6, 1948 in Hilton Village, Newport News, Virginia. Hitchings was a member of many organizations including Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Colonists, and United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was also a member of several service organizations, including the USO and the American Red Cross. Hitchings died on August 5, 1999 in Norfolk, Virginia and was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
