Brief Description: Circa 1980s photocopies of materials relating to Samuel Werth and his non-profit organization Werth & Associates Memorial Fund, dedicated to surveying Jewish gravesites in the Tidewater area and the state of Virginia. The collection includes correspondence primarily sent to Samuel Werth, documents relating to the purpose of the organization, and published materials relating to surveying Jewish cemeteries, particularly in Norfolk, Virginia. The collection also includes three maps (pages 19-21) which outline Hebrew Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia that show names and dates on tombstones.

Biographical Note for Werth, Samuel (1927-2011) : Samuel "Sonny" Werth was born on August 28, 1927 in Norfolk, Virginia. He graduated from Fork Union Military Academy and served in the United States Army as a topographical engineer, attaining the rank of second lieutenant and serving for two years in Korea. He was a member of the Norfolk Chapter of Jewish War Veterans, Old Dominion Post #158. He also founded Werth & Associates Memorial Fund, a non-profit organization which mapped Jewish gravesites throughout the state of Virginia. He died on September 17, 2011 in Chesapeake, Virginia and was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
