Brief Description: Photographs from the City of Norfolk Recreation Bureau in Norfolk, Virginia from 1932-1970. Significant sports represented in the collection include baseball, softball, basketball, and football. Recreational activities include annual playground circuses held outside local recreational facilities, seasonal festivals and celebrations, children's and teens' plays, puppet shows, costume contests, and children's and adults' art exhibits. There are also photographs of children playing on slides, jungle gyms, and the playground blacktop. A few photographs show the exteriors of recreational facilities, and there are also photographs of Recreation Bureau employees. Most of the photographs in the collection were taken from 1950-1965.
