Biographical Note for The Chesterfield Heights Corporation (1904-) : The Chesterfield Heights Corporation began in 1904 with an office at the corner of Main and Commerce Streets in downtown Norfolk, Virginia. Officers included: S. A. Moore (President), C. F. Teter (1st Vice-President), C. I. Zirkle (Treasurer), S. H. Bowman (Secretary), and Lee Shaffer (Chief Engineer). The corporation's motto at inception was: "Find the most attractive location, and provide there every modern convenience." The organization acquired 132 acres on the eastern branch of the Elizabeth River from the Haynes Estate, formerly named "Fielding."
