One 1839 personal letter detailing daily life and events in Norfolk, Virginia. Subjects include neighbors, family members, travel, and health.

Biographical Note

Nathaniel W. Paynter was born around 1820 in Virginia. He married Eliza S. Davidson on May 13, 1850 in Norfolk, Virginia. Paynter was a merchant. By 1860, he and his family had moved to Baltimore, Maryland. Paynter died on September 22, 1903 in Baltimore, Maryland and was buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
