One 1788 document granting Richard Smith a tract of land in Russell County, Virginia.

Biographical Note

Edmund Jennings Randolph was born on August 10, 1753 in Williamsburg, Virginia. He served as aide-de-camp to George Washington in the American Revolution. Randolph served in several public service positions, including mayor of Williamsburg, United States attorney general, delegate to the Continental Congress, and governor of Virginia. He was a lawyer for many years and helped defend Aaron Burr, who went on trial for treason in 1807. Randolph married Elizabeth Carter Nicholas Randolph on August 29, 1776. He died on September 13, 1813 and was buried at Old Chapel Cemetery in Millwood, Virginia.
