Two scrapbooks from the 1930s-1940s containing family photographs, newspaper clippings, certificates, membership cards, business cards, correspondence, invitations, and other memorabilia relating to E. E. Harrell of Portsmouth, Virginia.

Biographical Note

Emmett Edward "Slim" Harrell was born on December 9, 1898 in Nansemond County, Virginia. For 38 years he worked for Norfolk County Ferries. Harrell was a member of the Portsmouth Lions Club in Portsmouth, Virginia, serving for many years as the chapter's secretary and earning the prestigious Key of State award. He married Doris Delzel Mintz on December 5, 1943 in Camden, North Carolina. Harrell was a member of several Masonic lodges and related fraternal organizations. At the time of his death, he ran E. E. Harrell Insurance Agency. Harrell died on October 20, 1966 in Portsmouth, Virginia and was buried at Olive Branch Cemetery in Portsmouth, Virginia.
