Scope and Contents of the Materials

Two 1920s-1930s scrapbooks created by Martha Southgate Iredell. The scrapbooks feature newspaper clippings relating to the Norfolk German Club debutantes and Norfolk society, dance invitations, calling cards, wedding invitations, theater programs from Wells Theatre, and exhibit catalogs from the Norfolk Museum of Arts and Sciences in Norfolk, Virginia.

Biographical Note

Martha Southgate Iredell was born on August 4, 1908 in Virginia. She was a local artist of Norfolk, Virginia, exhibiting her paintings in the Hampton Roads area. Iredell joined the Norfolk Art Corner in 1938 and served as the organization's president in the 1940s. She retired as a clerk from Lavino Shipping Company in Norfolk, Virginia. She died on October 12, 1985 in Virginia Beach, Virginia and was buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
