Scope and Contents of the Materials

Two 1930s-1960s scrapbooks primarily containing newspaper clippings concerning local city politics, nominations, campaigns, elections, redevelopment, and the economy in Norfolk, Virginia. Many of the articles relate to Lawrence C. Page, who served on Norfolk City Council from 1938 to 1942 and from 1950 to 1960.

Biographical Note

Lawrence Charles Page, Sr. was born on May 19, 1885 in Norfolk, Virginia. He served in the Norfolk Light Artillery Blues for four years. Page was actively involved in politics for the city of Norfolk, Virginia. He was a strong supporter of redevelopment, a central public library, and a city pension plan. Page served on Norfolk's City Council from 1938-1942 and from 1950-1960. He took over his father's realty business: H. L. Page & Company, Inc. Page married Catherine Face. He died on October 15, 1963 in Norfolk, Virginia and was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
