Scope and Contents of the Materials

One mid-nineteenth to mid-twentieth century scrapbook containing clippings, genealogical information, and other materials related to the Whittle family, Christ Church, and Christ and Saint Luke's Church in Norfolk, Virginia. Handwritten genealogies trace the ancestry of several prominent connected Norfolk families, including Calvert, Dabney, Neilson, Page, and Walke. The scrapbook traces the Whittle family genealogy to Pocahontas. Much of the loose materials from the scrapbook relate to the death of Winston Churchill in 1965. Other information includes wedding announcements, obituaries, Norfolk history, historic buildings and homes in Virginia, and national and international news.

Biographical Note

Edmonia Lee Whittle was born on April 17, 1885 in Virginia. She was the daughter of William C. Whittle, Jr. and Elizabeth Calvert Page. Whittle died on August 25, 1968 in Virginia Beach, Virginia and was buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
