Scope and Contents of the Materials
Two account books containing information primarily between 1894 and 1896 about the paving of streets in downtown Norfolk, Virginia. The first ledger contains diagrams of streets, mathematical and monetary figures, bids, and estimated costs including materials and labor. A clipping is pasted inside the front cover, and the first page prominently displays the business name of the North Carolina Phosphate Company of Castle Hayne, North Carolina. The second ledger contains charts listing date, railway, car number, and weight. Notable business mentioned inside the second ledger include Petersburg Granite Quarrying Company and P. Linehan & Sons.
