Scope and Contents of the Materials
Two diaries written by Annie W. Capps dating between September 9, 1891 and December 4, 1892. The diaries cover Annie's travels in Europe with Irene Leache "Miss Leache," Anna Wood "Miss Wood," Lizzie, and Lily. Notable cities visited during this cultural excursion included Oxford, London, Paris, Florence, and Rome. Miss Capps wrote about her daily life abroad, including her experiences teaching.
Biographical Note
Annie W. Capps Bennett was born in 1860 in Norfolk, Virginia, the daughter of Enoch and Sarah Ann Capps. Annie was a schoolteacher at the Leache-Wood Seminary. She lived in Italy for several years following a trip to Europe in 1891. Annie married John Alvin Bennett on October 28, 1903 in Rome, Italy. She died on October 5, 1936 in Boston, Massachusetts.
