Historical Note: Richard Lucian Page was born on December 20, 1807 in Clarke County, Virginia. He married Sarah Alexina Taylor on November 4, 1842 in Norfolk, Virginia. Page joined the United States Navy in 1824 and served during the Mexican American War and the Civil War. In 1864, Page left the Confederate States Navy for a commission in the Confederate States Army as Brigadier General at Fort Morgan. After surrendering the fort in August 1864, he was a prisoner until September 1865. After the war, Page moved to Norfolk and was superintendent of the public schools from 1875 to 1883. He died on August 9, 1901 in Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania and was buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
