Historical Note: David Miers Conwell was born in Norfolk on February 25, 1921. Conwell attended Maury High School before serving in the U.S. Navy during World War Two during which he participated in the amphivious assaults on Morocco, Kwajelein, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. Additionally, Conwell survived the torpedoing of two ships and the severe damaging of a third by enemy aircraft.
