Historical Note: Gertrude "Betty" Elizabeth Parsons Harkness Ward was born on August 12, 1919 in San Dimas, California. She married Frederick George Ward on May 6, 1941 in Yuma, Arizona. Ward taught for the Norfolk and Virginia Beach school systems for more than 30 years; she taught at Princess Anne High School for a total of 19 years. She died on June 7, 1996 in Virginia Beach, Virginia and was buried at Princess Anne Memorial Park in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
