Scope and Contents of the Materials

Periodicals, newsletters, correspondence, clippings, and other ephemera collected by James McNally, an English professor at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Most of the materials date to the 1970s, but a considerable amount of materials date from the 1960s through 2010s. Subject matter includes University events, classes, the English Department, and faculty and staff. Additional materials collected by James McNally include materials on Harbor's Edge and theater programs from organizations such as the Virginia Opera Association and Virginia Stage Company.

Biographical Note

James Joseph McNally, Jr. was born on September 30, 1924 in Washington, D. C. He attended the University of Virginia and graduated with a PhD in English Literature in 1961. McNally was an English professor at Old Dominion University from 1963 until his retirement in 1992. He married Margaret Jean Wilson on August 12, 1944 in Washington, D. C. McNally married Mary Elinor Griffith on December 3, 1949 in Arlington, Virginia.
