Scope and Contents of the Materials

Nine letters from Hunter Mann to family members and one letter to Hunter Mann of Virginia, dating from December 31, 1909 to October 19, 1910. The letters detail Mann's personal experiences abroad during business travels to China and Korea for the British-American Tobacco Company, Limited.

Biographical Note

Hunter Mann was born on October 30, 1884 in Petersburg, Virginia. He was a tobacco and cigarettes salesman. Mann married Mary Elizabeth Cox (1889-1934) circa 1913, with whom he had one son, Hunter Mann, Jr. He married Frances Dorothy Oldtmann on January 31, 1935 in Rye, New York. He died on May 5, 1966 in Harrison, New York and was buried at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye, New York.
