Biographical Note

The Cosmopolitan Club of Norfolk was chartered on February 27, 1924. It is a service organization dedicated to charitable efforts, especially diabetes research. In 1985 the Cosmopolitan Club of Norfolk played a vital role in raising the necessary funds for the Strelitz Diabetes Center at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Since 1928, the Cosmopolitan Club of Norfolk has been awarding the First Citizen Award to Norfolk individuals for their services to the community.

Folder 3: Correspondence Regarding Club's status as Incorporated or Unincorporated, 1968 September 30-1975 May 12: Hank Dusinberre, member of the Norfolk Cosmopolitan Club brought up a question regarding the constitution and by-laws of the Club: is the club incorporated into Cosmopolitan International or is there an unincorporated faculty to the Norfolk branch of the club? This folder contains the correspondence related to this question.

Folder 1: Annual Reports, 1930-1977 February 1: Annual reports are general reports on the club's activity, especially regarding events, membership number, Club Officer information, and finances.
Folder 2: Treasurer Reports, 1933-1976 August 1: Treasurer reports contain the details of the Club's accounts, including receipts, disbursements, and the current bank balance. These reports were submitted monthly and yearly.
Folder 3: Expenses and Receipts, circa 1930s-1977: Detailed receipts and expense lists from specific Club events.
Folder 4: Proposed Budgets and Balance Sheets, 1938 November 16-1978 June: Proposed operating budgets for the Norfolk Cosmopolitan Club as well as written budget recommendations and balance sheets for the Club's accounts.
Folder 5: Reports of the Finance Committee, 1944 June 15-1961 July 30: The Finance Committee was the body of members who helped to create the yearly budgets and guide the Club financially; these reports include reflections on the past income and expenses of the Club and recommendations for the future.

Bound annual financial reports. Years 1938 and 1939 are titled Report of Auditing Committee, all years after are Annual Reports. There are 25 reports in total, and they give detailed financial information and recommendations from the past year including assets and liabilities, statements of cash in savings account, statements of cash deposits, dues and accounts receivable, statements of revenue and expenditures, statements of dues assessed and paid, statements of cash receipts and disbursements, and statements of expenses from specific Club activities.
