Scope and Contents of the Materials

Administrative documents from the Norfolk Cosmopolitan Club, a civic service oriented social club chartered in Norfolk in 1924, affiliated with Cosmopolitan International.

Biographical Note

The Cosmopolitan Club of Norfolk was chartered on February 27, 1924. It is a service organization dedicated to charitable efforts, especially diabetes research. In 1985 the Cosmopolitan Club of Norfolk played a vital role in raising the necessary funds for the Strelitz Diabetes Center at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Since 1928, the Cosmopolitan Club of Norfolk has been awarding the First Citizen Award to Norfolk individuals for their services to the community.

Folder 1: Annual Reports, 1930-1977 February 1: Annual reports are general reports on the club's activity, especially regarding events, membership number, Club Officer information, and finances.
Folder 2: Treasurer Reports, 1933-1976 August 1: Treasurer reports contain the details of the Club's accounts, including receipts, disbursements, and the current bank balance. These reports were submitted monthly and yearly.
Folder 3: Expenses and Receipts, circa 1930s-1977: Detailed receipts and expense lists from specific Club events.
