Twelve 1919 photographs, likely taken on June 23, featuring a parade in Norfolk, Virginia to celebrate the end of World War I.

Biographical Note

Nona Josephine Cowan was born on June 10, 1889 in Bertie County, North Carolina. She served during World War I as a Yeomanette in Hampton Roads, Virginia. Cowan was listed in the 1930 census as a dressmaker. In the 1940 census, she was listed as looking for work as a bookkeeper/stenographer. Cowan later worked for the North Carolina Employment Commission. She died on January 11, 1977 in Norfolk, Virginia and was buried at Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie, North Carolina.
