1913-1914 correspondence between Robert E. Steed and The White House, and one 1901 check from The Norfolk Bank For Savings and Trusts, signed by Robert E. Steed. Also includes one 1928 Lindbergh commemorative coin and one 1959 Public Porter pin.
Biographical Note
Robert Edey Steed was born on July 13, 1856 in King William County, Virginia. He married Ellen Ida Johnson on July 3, 1883 in Lanesville, Virginia. Steed began working for the city of Norfolk, Virginia in 1891 and served as city clerk from 1906 until he took a leave of absence for health reasons on December 1, 1929. He died on May 28, 1930 in Norfolk, Virginia and was buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
