Historical Note: Margaret Elizabeth Thomas Kaufman was born on September 8, 1912 in Portsmouth, Virginia. She married J. Carroll Kaufman on March 12, 1938 in Norfolk, Virginia. Kaufman was an English teacher at Churchland High School. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and the Portsmouth Women's Club, and she volunteered for the Naval Shipyard Museum. She died on June 7, 1999 in Portsmouth, Virginia and was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth, Virginia.
