This collection contains genealogical research gathered by Alice Granbery Walter. The material includes photocopied documents, newspaper clippings, pedigree charts, notes, manuscripts, photographs, negatives, and maps spanning from the 1600s to the 1970s. Biographical Note
Alice Granbery Walter was born on August 2, 1908 in Norfolk, Virginia. She was a long-time resident of the Norfolk area. Walter was a descendant of the Hoggard family of Poplar Hall in Norfolk, Virginia. She was an artist, historic preservationist, and genealogist. She was a recipient of the Garden Club of America Historic Preservation award. Walter led the fight to save the Old Coast Guard Station. She published eight books of historical and genealogical records, 50 genealogical pedigree charts, and several maps. Walter died on May 30, 2003 at Westminster Canterbury in Virginia Beach, Virginia and was buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
