Name: Werth, Samuel (1927-2011)
Historical Note: Samuel "Sonny" Werth was born on August 28, 1927 in Norfolk, Virginia. He graduated from Fork Union Military Academy and served in the United States Army as a topographical engineer, attaining the rank of second lieutenant and serving for two years in Korea. He was a member of the Norfolk Chapter of Jewish War Veterans, Old Dominion Post #158. He also founded Werth & Associates Memorial Fund, a non-profit organization which mapped Jewish gravesites throughout the state of Virginia. He died on September 17, 2011 in Chesapeake, Virginia and was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
