Scope and Contents of the Materials
Nine June 1968 to April 1977 scrapbooks covering each season of plays and other productions at the Norfolk Theatre Center in Norfolk, Virginia. The scrapbooks include clippings, theater programs and playbills, advertisements, calendars, booklets, budgets, meeting minutes, photographs, correspondence, and other materials collected by Hugh Bergeron during his time as an actor and active Board member. The 1976-1977 season materials reflect the name change from Norfolk Theatre Center to Stage Downunder at Scope.
Biographical Note
Hubert Bunn Bergeron, Jr. was born on June 30, 1926 in Spring Hope, North Carolina. Bergeron served in the United States Army during World War II. He married Betty Palmer. Bergeron taught for 42 years at Norfolk Public Schools, including Norview High School, Lake Taylor High School, and Booker T. Washington High School. He also taught at Anatolia College in Thessaloniki, Greece. Bergeron was co-founder of the Norfolk Theatre Center and past president of the Little Theatre of Norfolk. He died on September 10, 2010 in Waldorf, Maryland and was buried at Oak Dale Cemetery in Spring Hope, North Carolina.
