Scope and Contents of the Materials

One 1855-1859 ledger comprised of judges' names, lists of individuals raising certain crops or livestock, and inventories of crops and equipment. Geographical locations listed in the volume include areas around Tidewater Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, including Suffolk, Nansemond, Chuckatuck, and Mathews in Virginia and Gates, North Carolina.

Biographical Note

The Seaboard Agricultural Society began circa 1854 and sponsored annual agricultural exhibits in the Norfolk, Virginia region.
