Scope and Contents of the Materials
Two 1950s clipping scrapbooks of articles written by Louisa Venable Kyle of Virginia Beach, Virginia. The collection also includes a Kyle-Venable Family book of origins featuring genealogical research and photographs of ancestral homes and plantation houses, compiled by Louisa Venable Kyle in Summer 1968. There are also writings of and about Louisa Venable Kyle dating from 1950-1990 in the collection.
Biographical Note
Louisa Carrington Venable Kyle was born on August 11, 1903 in Norfolk, Virginia. She married William Emmett Kyle on June 28, 1924 in Norfolk, Virginia. Kyle wrote local history articles in The Virginian-Pilot and The Portsmouth Star during the 1950s. She authored several non-fiction and fiction books from 1960-1993, including Little Neck Section of Princess Anne County, The Witch of Pungo, Ram Lam, My Virginia Childhood: The Years 1903-1914, A Country Woman's Scrapbook, and A Country Woman's Christmas. She was a founding member of the Princess Anne County Historical Society. Kyle was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach and she was also a member of National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, Monday Club, and Princess Anne Garden Club. Kyle died on October 24, 1999 in Virginia Beach, Virginia and was buried at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
