Scope and Contents of the Materials

Family photographs compiled and taken by Roy Lee Clayton of Norfolk, Virginia. Many of the photographs were taken in Norfolk, particularly 3102 Lens Avenue, 2634 Harrell Avenue, and Ocean View. Other geographic localities include Salem, Virginia; Albion, Pennsylvania; Petersburg, West Virginia; and Canton, North Carolina. Many of the photographs taken in Salem show men and buildings from the 1391st Company, Civilian Conservation Corps. There is one 1930-1944 photograph scrapbook of individuals at the beach in Ocean View and Willoughby Beach.

Biographical Note

Roy Lee Clayton was born on January 24, 1910 in Creeds, Virginia. He was a mechanic and retired from Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority. Clayton married Myrtle Luellen Jenkins on May 23, 1953 in Norfolk, Virginia. He was a member of Parkway Temple in Chesapeake, Virginia. Clayton died on March 16, 1992 in Norfolk, Virginia and was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
