Scope and Contents of the Materials
Letters from Walker Jones, a private of the 11th Virginia Infantry, to his family during the Civil War between 1861 and 1863. Also includes one letter each from his brothers, Charles W. and James.
Biographical Note
Walker W. Jones was born around 1841. He grew up in Campbell County, Virginia and helped his father oversee the family farm. Jones enlisted in the Army of the Confederate States of America on May 16, 1861, and was assigned to Company C of the 11th Virginia Infantry, also known as the Clifton Greys. Jones was wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1, 1863. He was discharged on July 3, 1863.
