Sources: Henry Vannier Shriver was born on August 11, 1927 in Norfolk, Virginia. He enlisted in the United States Army on February 22, 1946 in Richmond, Virginia. After the Army, Shriver went on to receive a master's degree in architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1954. He married Lois Jane Brackett on June 16, 1956 in Norfolk, Virginia. Also in 1956, he became a self-employed architect at Shriver and Holland Associates in Norfolk, Virginia. Shriver is credited with designing Cowgill Hall and Burchard Hall, both at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. Shriver died on October 4, 2011 and was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
