Most documents in this collection are dated 1966, but the Norfolk Committee for Neighborhood Voter Registration covers 1967 and 1968. These materials relate largely to promoting voter registration in Norfolk, Virginia.
Biographical Note
The Norfolk Voter Registration Council was formed in April 1966 and made up of the JFK Young Democratic Club, League of Women Voters, Norfolk Chapter of the NAACP, Norfolk Federation of Civic Leagues, Norfolk Young Democratic Club, Norfolk Young Republican Club, and Second District Republican Women's Clubs. The NVRC's purpose was to provide a non-partisan effort to achieve full voter registration and a full vote in Norfolk. The organization was officially incorporated in May 1966.
