One 1904 original stock certificate and twelve 1904-1905 photocopies of stock certificates issued by the Ghent Club of Norfolk, Virginia.

Biographical Note

The Ghent Club was established around 1902 for the middle and upper classes in Norfolk, Virginia. The Club was originally held at 222 York Street, and its membership consisted largely of individuals from the German-Jewish community. In 1920, the Ghent Club moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia and became the Lynnhaven Country Club, but it did not last due to maintenance costs.

Item 1: Original Stock Certificate, 1904 April 1: Original stock certificate No. 65 issued to Max Pincus. Handwritten note in red ink on certificate face says "#90 issued in lieu hereof November 15, 1905."
Item 2: Stock Certificate Copies, 1904 April 1 and 15 November 1904: Twelve copies of stock certificates issued by the Ghent Club to the following people: J. L. Margolius, R. Margolius, Aaron Marx, Moses Marx, B. F. Metzger, Joseph Morris, J. Rotholtz, Issac Salamonsky, L. L. Stern, Nathan Metzger, Louis Seidler, and Roy Shulman. Handwritting across the face of each certificate indicates that the certificate was cancelled and replaced on November 15, 1905.
