Collection Overview
Scope and Contents of the Materials
One 1830s ledger containing sketches of houses in the borough of Norfolk, Virginia. This sketchbook is likely a mortgage foreclosure portfolio from 1836 to 1850. All properties included in the sketchbook were held by the Bank of Virginia. Entries include color paintings of the foreclosed properties, architectural drawings, and the street the property was located on. Many entries also contain information on the previous owner of the property, the property's value, what the property sold for at auction, and who bought the property. The last pages of the portfolio contain financial information.
