Scope and Contents of the Materials

Photographs of courthouses taken between 1977 and 1989 representing all 95 existing counties of Virginia. There are also courthouse photographs of former Warwick (Newport News), Nansemond (Suffolk), and Norfolk (present day Portsmouth) counties in this collection. There are no courthouse photographs for Elizabeth City (Hampton) or Princess Anne (Virginia Beach) counties. In addition to courthouses, this collection also contains photographs of notable buildings, social gatherings, infrastructure, and other places of interest in the state of Virginia.

Biographical Note

George Warren Driskill was born on August 26, 1922 in Drakes Branch, Virginia. He married Helen Yamalaki on October 18, 1958 in Norfolk, Virginia. Driskill was an aviation metalsmith at the Norfolk Naval Base in Norfolk, Virginia; he retired in 1979. Driskill died on December 17, 2009 in Norfolk, Virginia and was buried at Rosewood Memorial Park in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
