Scope and Contents of the Materials
Three diaries ranging from February 1, 1878 to March 18, 1893 and belonging to W. S. Dunford of Bowers Hill, Virginia. Each volume is precluded by the title "Account of time." The brief daily entries primarily include Dunford's weather observations, while sometimes including chores, travels from home, and significant daily events. The front and back inside covers of each volume include simple poems and quotations, along with autographs.
Biographical Note
William/Wilson Samuel Dunford was born on November 20, 1853 in Nansemond County, Virginia. Dunford was a farmer. He married Estelle Wilson on September 26, 1883 in Nansemond County, Virginia. Dunford died on February 18, 1894 and was buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia.
