Subject matter includes marriages, deaths, news, economics, politics, poetry, anecdotes, jokes, Napoleon, and various other topics. There are a few handwritten pages on the weeping willow in England, hymn sung at the funeral of the late Mrs. Mead, "On Marriage," "The Alphabet of Requisites for a Wife," and "Lines composed some weeks since by a young gentleman aged 31, on his deathbed."
