Historical Note: Richard Frothingham was born on January 31, 1812 in Charlestown, a neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts. He married Vrylena Blanchard in 1833. Frothingham was a politician, serving as mayor of Charlestown from 1851 to 1853. He also served in other public service positions, among them as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Frothingham was known as a historian, writer, and journalist, authoring several books and serving as managing editor of the Boston Post. He died in Boston, Massachusetts on January 29, 1880 and was buried at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
